Pride in our Students, Staff and Community

3/11/2014

It is funny how events like our recent success bring out the best in our students, Staff and Community.  I would like to think that we all are very proud of our schools and students and their accomplishments, but at times we need to be reminded how great things are in our little part of the world.  I have attached a segment of an email Darren Hartry sent to staff members recently.  This piece has a direct quote from the Macon/Meridian Basketball Coach and of course Darren's response and how he chose to share this great information with our staff.  While we are always aware of greatness in our district, we all sometimes take those things for granted and fail to reward those responsible.  Not today!  Please read and enjoy.
..........This assembly is to honor the success of these athletes and coaches but I ask that each of you stop and enjoy this moment as an educator; whether you had these kids in Pre-K or have them in class now you have helped to shape and mold them, you have encouraged and supported them and you have played a part in the success they are having!  The athletic success that we are having is exceptional but I must share something that I believe is just as exceptional about our students:
Last night while the basketball team was cutting down the net Jack Blickensderfer, long time Macon Meridian Principal and Head Basketball Coach, grabbed me (literally) and said "I love your team, I love your coaches, and I love your fans!  I have been around and you guys are pure class!  Your students were just chanting Warrensburg-Latham to recognize the efforts of their team!  Class, class, class, you should be so proud!"  With tears of pride welling in my eyes I told him I am very proud and feel very fortunate to have a tremendous faculty and staff, great parents and tremendous students!
Teachers you have made a difference and as you enjoy the success of our teams please enjoy your success as well!

One other exciting bit of PORTA news, David Devine, wrestling for SIUE, was seeded 4th in the conference tournament but showed them the PORTA way and won it!  He now gets to advance to the NCAA Division I  National Tournament!  I will ask Mr. Hill to forward any other information he has on this!

Thank you for all you do!

This is a fun and exciting time for all of us, so take the time to recognize that we have it pretty good here in the A-C Central and PORTA Communities.
