PORTA Prekindergarten Program Changes and Improvements

9/17/2014

For the first time since PORTA has offered a Prekindergarten program, Central School will house two of the four classrooms of three and four year old students.  This change was precipitated by the need for space at the Elementary level after a steady increase in enrollment at the K-2 level over the past three years.  The increased need for space was also complicated by the need to maintain music at the K-2 building for the increased sections of Kindergarten thru 2nd grade classrooms.
With the addition of the PreK classrooms at Central, facilities needed to be considered and one area lacking was age appropriate playground equipment for the 3 and 4 year old students.  Fortunately, for the PORTA District the Prekindergarten grant was sufficient enough in this school year to afford the purchase and placement of new playground equipment.

This new equipment, seen above, will be placed on the current playground meeting all State and Federal guidelines for safety and surface material.  Along with the new playground equipment, parents will notice that we have a very new PreK teaching staff who have been very proactive in retaining new supplies, furniture and curricular offerings for the new school year.  If you have a chance stop in and see your new PreK staff and welcome them to the PORTA Community.  Please keep an eye open for those family nights so that you and your family can attend a very informative session with our Prekindergarten staff.

It's so fun to see the little ones at Central! Seeing them puts a smile on our faces, and I think it helps our third graders feel not so small.
