ALERT!!  PORTA Schools under Heightened Security Level January 25, 2017.

1/25/2017

Good Morning,
The PORTA District is on heightened alert this morning after an investigation of an incident that occurred last evening.  The Menard County Sheriff’s Department and PORTA Administration were made aware of an unusual situation that raised the cause for concern.  The matter has been investigated over the late evening hours and all parties concerned believe there is no credible threat.  But as a precaution, increased police presence at District buildings will be maintained and Staff has been notified of the situation and are on heightened alert as well.  While the actions taken by the district and Menard County Sheriff's office might be excessive in this case, our main concern is the safety of students and staff.
We have every inclination that there is no credible threat at this time and our actions are precautionary at this time.  If other information comes available that would change the alert status the district will notify families and the community immediately.
Thank You

So if there was a threat last night why were the kids not told to stay home today. This is not good by any means especially in this day and age. Very poor decision making on the school boards part. You folks will probably feel pretty stupid if anything happens. I pray nothing does for the sake of out community and the kids in school. Guess the best decision was to let them come then try and send them if something does happen. Good job porta

It could be minor. Way to jump on the blame train

Right. Why blame the school? I mean if something did happen they could have prevented it and informed people last night and given them the option to keep their kids home or make them stay home. What do I know though? Glad everyone is safe now and everything is ok

If it's ongoing, they can't comment on it.
