Megan Kruse, who has been offered the PORTA Jr. High Principal has already, in her short career, proven herself as a distinguished educator. As the 2015 recipient of the Illinois Principals Association Award for Outstanding Service to Children, Megan has been recognized by her peers as an outstanding educator.    She started her education career teaching Spanish to 7th- 12th grade students and spent six years in the Ridgeview School District. While teaching at Ridgeview, Megan participated on the District Leadership Committee, led a student mentoring effort to help student course planning and time management and wrote a successful IPAD grant that benefited the school’s programs.  Ms. Megan Kruse’s dedication to children, families and the PORTA Community was extremely evident throughout the interview process.

In the Fall of 2016, Ms. Kruse became an administrative intern for the PORTA District, while also being employed as the Jr High Secretary.  In the six months Megan has been employed at PORTA, she has taken a proactive role in supporting students, families, and educational professionals. Ms. Kruse will finalize her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Foundations from Illinois State University, following the successful completion of her current internship.

Megan Kruse’s educational background and personal experiences have helped shape her philosophy of education. As a PORTA Alumni, Megan has shared her desire to help all PORTA students learn at the highest levels possible and to become a valuable member of our community.

The interview process for the PORTA Jr. High Principal consisted of two interview teams, the first comprised of parents, teachers, a student and Board member and the second comprised of administrative personnel and a board member.  Select candidates were interviewed by both teams and the final two candidates were interviewed by the combined committees on Saturday December 3, 2016.  At the conclusion of interviews Ms. Megan Kruse was the unanimous choice of the committees. Two parent committee members, Betsy LaMaster and Brandy Zanger shared the attached comments about the process and outcome.

The PORTA Board was excited to include various interest groups in the interview process and feel the transparency involved in the process is a positive method of building community, family and staff support.  Additionally, the Board of Education would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to all who participated in the successful interview process.

So pleased to read of Megan's accomplishments and the selection now as junior high principal. As a child of 5 in kindergarten she was as perceptive as any I had ever taught so I can only imagine the exponential talents she now shares. Congratulations to Megan as she begins this new position! Accolades to all who served in the interview process. Sincerely, Co Shelton
