Welcome to the Superintendent's Blog "About" page. My name is Matt Brue and I am the current Superintendent at PORTA CUSD #202. The 2013-14 school year is my 10th year as PORTA Superintendent and I am proud to say I love being part of the PORTA Communities. My wife, two children and I moved to Oakford in June of 2004 after I accepted this position. We were excited about the new job, but more so about the opportunities this District would offered our children and we were not disappointed.
Currently, my Daughter,Kaylee is a graduate student at University of North Carolina studying Speech Pathology. She is a graduate of Illinois State University. Jacob, my son, is currently attending Illinois State University with a four year Army ROTC scholarship and will graduate as a 2nd LT in the US Army in May of 2015.
My wife of 24 years, Chris, currently works for Athens State Bank and has a cosmetology degree and has owned her own interior painting business prior to moving to Oakford.
As you can see by the picture above we are dog lovers and have raised and rescued German Wirehaired Pointers and Golden Retrievers for nearly twenty years. Currently, we have three Wirehairs ( Lucy, Gertie and Putz "Jack" Pirat") all of whom are hunting and house dogs and come from excellent bloodlines. Our only Golden retriever at this time is Bear and he is the youngest of our pack at 2 years old. So, we have four huge dogs living in our house.
I grew up just west of Petersburg in Virginia Illinois and then attended North Central College in Naperville and Graduated from Quincy University 1990. I was lucky enough to grow up on a farm a good portion of my life and spent most of my school years playing Baseball, Football, Basketball for our school teams and went on to college and played outside linebacker. I grew up as an avid hunter and fisherman and still am today. I began hunting in earnest with my dad at age 5 and was running a Jon boat on the Illinois river not to long after with my grandfather who was a part-time commercial fisherman.
After Graduating from undergrad I was offered a Jr. High teaching position at Shepherd Middle School in Ottawa Illinois. I was able to coach girl's basketball, wrestling and track for the Jr High and Taught History and Science. I earned my Master's degree in 1996 at ISU and began my administrative career the summer of 1996 as an asst. Principal for the Marseilles school district in Marseilles Illinois. Shortly there after I was offered a Principals position at Oakland Park Elementary in Streator IL and then moved to Peru Elementary as a K-2 principal prior to accepting this position. Currently I am completing my doctoral studies at Illinois State University.
